Caleb Solomon earns male athlete of the week

Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. If you want to sponsor the female or male athlete of the week email Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. Use that same email to send your nominations in during the week. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 364 past athlete of the week winners.

This week, we had 10 Rowell’s Garage male athlete of the week nominations. Caleb Solomon averaged 20.7 points and 12.3 rebounds to help the Houlton Shires finish the season with three wins in the final week. Solomon is the 10th Houlton student/athlete to earn athlete of the week honors. He joins Kyle Bouchard (4) (1-3-16), Jimmy Fitzpatrick (10-14-12), Kolleen Bouchard (19) (3-5-18), Natalie Hill (9-27-15), Seth Holston- (9-11-16), Tessa Solomon (11-6-17), Keegan Gentle (4) (1-20-2020), Will Belyea (9-16-19), and Jaron Gentle (10-28-19)


Male athlete of the week February  7th- February 12th

  • Caleb Solomon – Houlton- basketball- averaged 20.7 points and 12.3 rebounds to help the Shires go 3-0 beating Caribou, Washington Academy, and Old Town this week. Solomon also averaged 16.7 points and over six rebounds in a Shires 3-1 week the previous week.

Runner up

  • Eliot Shearer – Stearns – basketball. – had 28 points, eight rebounds, and two  steals in 68-62 win over Central. Had 18 points and seven rebounds in 69-46 win over Schenck.  The senior captain helped the Minutemen finish with 11 regular season wins, the most Stearns boys basketball team has had in seven years.

Other nominations

  • Chance Mercier- Ellsworth- basketball- scored 32 points
  • Luke Briggs- Cony- basketball- scored 19 points, including 1000 career point in  91-52 win over Lawrence.
  • LJ Shaw – Penquis – basketball – had 14 points, nine rebounds, five assists, four steals, and two blocks in 58-17 win over PCHS.
  • Max Wells- Penquis- basketball- had 18 points and three steals in 58-17 win over PCHS.
  • Seth Robbins- Dexter- basketball- had 20 points (5 three pointers) in 68-60 loss to Foxcroft.
  • Will Kusnierz- Dexter-  basketball- had 20 points, eight rebounds, and three steals in 68-60 loss to Foxcroft.
  • Filip Brkic- Foxcroft- basketball- recorded 15 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, and three steals in 68-60 win over Dexter.
  • Simon Allen- Central- basketball- had 29 points in 68-62 loss to Stearns.
