Gavyn Holyoke earns male athlete of the week

Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. If you want to sponsor the female or male athlete of the week email Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. Use that same email to send your nominations in during the week. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of past athlete of the week winners.

This week, we had eight Rowell’s Garage male athlete of the week nominations. Gavyn Holyoke won one game with his bat and one with his arm to help Bucksport start the season quick. Holyoke joins Mike Cummings (5-13-12), Kacie Hurd (9-16-12), Cassidy Adams – (2)- (5-19-13), Carter DeRedin- (5-23-15), Samantha Goode- (6-21-15), Riley MacLeod (12-26-15), Kate Saunders (4-30-17), Matt Vincent (4-30-17),Chase Carmichael (10-15-17), Carter Tolmasoff (2) (11-12-18), Tanner Stegner (5-28-18), Mikayla Tripp (5-20-19), Josh Miller (11-11-19), Jacob Guty (6-27-21), and Ella Hosford (3) (10-28-21)  as student/athletes from Bucksport high school that have earned athlete of the week honors.


Male athlete of the week April 17th-April 23rd 

  • Gavyn Holyoke- Bucksport- baseball- had two hits in 2-0 win over Orono. Pitched a no hitter with 11 strikeouts plus hit a double and scored three runs in 19-0 win over Sumner.

Runner up

  • Simon Allen- Central- baseball- had four hits, three RBI, two runs scored and was the winning pitcher, allowing four runs on six hits and three walks, while striking out three in five innings pitched in 14-8 in nine innings over Mattanawcook.

Other nominations

  • Ty Giberson- Bucksport- baseball- allowed one hit in five shutout innings, walking six and striking out 10 in 2-0 win over Orono. Scored four runs in 19-0 win over Sumner.
  • Jackson Sutherland – Mattanawcook- baseball- got the win on the mound, allowing one run on two hits and one walk, while striking out 11 plus had one hit and two RBI in 5-4 win over George Stevens.
  • Caleb Ryder- Orono- baseball- allowed two unearned runs on three hits and two walks, while striking eight in complete game 4-2 win over Washington Academy.
  • Joe Hamelin- Waterville- baseball- had four hits, including two doubles and one RBI plus earned the save in 4-1 win over Nokomis.
  • Kayden Kimball- Dexter- baseball- reached base five times,  including  three hits, four runs scored, three RBI, two doubles, and two walks in 18-0 win over PCHS.
  • Willis Rienhardt- Dexter- baseball- had three hits, including a home run in 18-0 win over PCHS.
