Justin Thompson is named Down East Limousine male athlete of the week for the sixth time

Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations during the week to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 175 past athlete of the week winners.

This week, we had four Rowell’s Garage athlete of the week nominations. Justin Thompson from Schenck high school averaged 32.5 points and 13 rebounds in two games. The junior also recorded his 1000 career point in a Wolverines win over Katahdin. Thompson joins Gage Feeney (Washington Academy) and Parise Rossignol (Van Buren) as the only student/athletes who have been named athlete of the week at least six times, Feeney was a seven time athlete of the week winner.

Hunter Smith from Foxcroft Academy also went over the 1000 point mark this week. Other nominations include Bryce Gilbert from PCHS and Nate DeSisto from Orono high school.

Down East Limousine Male Athlete of the week

Justin Thompson- Schenck- basketball- recorded 37 points. 10 rebounds, five assists in 86-76 loss to Lee Academy. Scored his 1000 career point and finished with 28 points, 16 rebounds, and five assists in 70-36 win over Katahdin. Other student/athletes from Schenck high school to earn athlete of the week honors include Ashley Leavitt, Ryan Jurgiewich, Chantel Lane, and Justin’s older sister Morgan Thompson.

Runner up

Hunter Smith- Foxcroft- basketball- scored his 28 points, including his1000 career point, and a dunk in 61-48 loss to Old Town.

Other nominations

Bryce Gilbert- PCHS- basketball- scored 23 points in 53-23 win over Stearns,

Nate Desisto- Orono – basketball- scored 22 points in 62-52 win over MDI.
