Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations during the week to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 175 past athlete of the week winners.

This week, we had 15 Rowell’s garage female athlete of the week nominations. Morgan Fernald broke two swimming records by over four seconds. Fernald is the fourth student/athlete from Belfast to earn athlete of the week honors. She joins Emery Dinsmore (5-18-14), Madison Littlefield (11-2-14), and Kylie Nelson (9-20-15).Sydney Allen from Central high school finished a close second. Allen had a huge week, averaging over 20 points per game in helping the Red Devils go 2-1.

Other nominations include Rylee Warman and Kolleen Bouchard from Houlton,  Kelsea Mcdonald and Cassidy Lessner from Highview Christian, Grace Bickford and Abby Simpson from Foxcroft, Emma Campbell from Central, Emma Alley from Stearns, Megan Peach from Dexter, Sidney Moore from Nokomis, Mikayla Richards from Old Town, and Crystal Bell from John Bapst.

Morgan Fernald- Belfast- swimming- the junior broke the 200 IM record with a time of 2:23:79. This record was 25 years old and Morgan broke it by over 4 seconds. Fernald also broke the 500 free record with a time of 5:35:99. That is over 5 seconds faster than the previous record last year.

Runner up

Sydney Allen – Central – basketball- 19 points, including three 3-pointers, and 3 steals in a 54-51 loss to MDI. Scored 22 points and had four steals in 50-38 win over Old Town. Had 21 points and 5 rebounds in a win against Mattanawcook Academy on Saturday. Sydney helped lead her team to a 2-1 record for the week; averaging 20.7 points per game, 3 rebounds per game, 2 steals per game, and 2 assists per game for the week.

Kelsea Mcdonald- Highview Christian- basketball- scored 23 points and pulled down 12 rebounds in 45-44 win over Woodland.

Emma Alley- Stearns- basketball- scored 18 points in 52-50 win over PCHS.

Camryn Lyons- Mattanawcook- basketball – scored 24 points in 53-41 win over Caribou.

Emma Campbell – Central – basketball- 14 points and 9 rebounds in a 54-51 loss to MDI.

Grace Bickford – Foxcroft – basketball- 18 points in a 55-52 loss to Presque Isle.

Rylee Warman – Houlton – basketball- 23 points, including four 3-pointers, in a 72-54 win vs. Calais.

Kolleen Bouchard – Houlton – basketball- 25 points in a 72-54 win vs. Calais.

Megan Peach – Dexter – basketball Scored a game-high 17 points in a 38-24 win against Orono.

Sidney Moore- Nokomis- basketball- – scored 26 points by shooting 9 – 11 from the floor, including (5) three pointers and 3 – 4 from the foul line to help propel Nokomis to the home victory over Belfast.

Mikayla Richards- Old Town – basketball- scored 27 points including 6 three pointers in 58-51 loss at Foxcroft.

Abby Simpson-Foxcroft- basketball- scored 26 points in 58-51 win over Old Town.

Crystal Bell- John Bapst- basketball- scored 26 points, made the game tying three pointer at the end of regulation, and scored all 13 of the Crusaders points in overtime in 61-57 win over Orono.

Cassidy Lessner- Highview Christian- basketball- scored 20 points in 55-26 win over Hyde. Scored 11 points, including 7-7 from the free throw line in 54-35 loss to Shead.
