Nia Irving is named Roadrunner Taxi female athlete of the week

Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations during the week to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 173 past athlete of the week winners.

This week, we had eight Rowell’s Garage female athlete of the week nominations. Nia Irving got all the first place votes thanks to putting up solid numbers in two games, including a 35 points, 25 rebounds, and four blocks performance in leading Lawrence to a win over Messalonskee.

Irving is the first student/athlete from Lawrence High School to be named athlete of the week. A total of 55 schools have now been represented since Eastern Maine Sports started naming athlete of the week in 2011.

Other nominations this week include Morgan Dauk from George Stevens Academy, Amy Hallett from Penobscot Valley High School, Delani Bennett from Piscataquis Community High School, Abi Simpson and Grace Bickford from Foxcroft Academy, and Kelsea McDonald and Cassidy Lessner from Highview Christian Academy.

Roadrunner Taxi female athlete of the week

Nia Irving– Lawrence- basketball – recorded 35 points, 25 rebounds, and four blocks in 62-38 win over Messalonskee. Scored 24 points in 61-36 win over Hampden.

Runner up

Morgan Dauk- George Stevens- basketball- scored 24 points in 51-38 win over Sumner.

Other nominations

Amy Hallett- PVHS- basketball- scored 19 points in 48-45 win over Stearns. Scored 13 points in 52-20 win over Bangor Christian.

Abi Simpson – Foxcroft- basketball- recorded 13 points, 11 rebounds, four blocks, and three assists in 46-43 win over Central.

Grace Bickford- Foxcroft – basketball- recorded 11 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, two steals, and two blocks in 46-43 win over Central.

Kelsea McDonald -Highview Christian – basketball- 28 points and 17 rebounds in wins over Hyde and Greater Portland Christian.

Cassidy Lessner – Highview Christian- basketball- 22 points, 5 rebounds, and outstanding defense in wins over Hyde and Greater Portland Christian.

Delani Bennett- PCHS- basketball- recorded 13 points and 12 rebounds in 46-34 win over Central.
