Celts, B’s sweep Friday night on the Boston sports scene

BOSTON- The Boston Celtics used fluid ball movement to dish out 30 assists Friday night and shoot down the Phoenix Suns 117-103 at TD Garden.

The Celts put 7 players in double figures led by Kelly Olynyk who had 21 points off the bench. Olynyk scored 13 straight points during a two and half minute stretch near the end of the first half by hitting three consecutive shots from behind the arc and also connected on two driving layups to increase a 7 point Boston lead to 21 at halftime.

Isaiah Thomas also connected for 19 points in just 24 minutes and Marcus Smart had 10 points, 11 assists and 11 rebounds to record the triple double.

Mirza Teletovic scored a game high 22 points for Phoenix (13-28). Boston (21-19) will visit the Washington Wizards Saturday night in the nation’s capital at 7:30 p.m.

 

 

BUFFALO- Ryan Spooner had a goal and an assist as the Boston Bruins ended a 3 game losing skid with a 4-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres at First Niagra Center Friday night.

Spooner set up Zdeno Chara for the game winning goal just 29 seconds into the third period as the Bruins took a 2-1 lead on Charas first goal in 19 games.

Jonas Gustavsson made 33 saves for Boston who lost third period leads in their last two games both one goal losses to the Rangers and Flyers.

Spooner added a goal with just over 9 minutes left and Brett Connolly added a late empty netter for the Bruins (22-16-5). The Sabres (17-23-4) lost for the first time in their last 3.

Boston will return home and host the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night at TD Garden with puck drop scheduled for 7 p.m.
