Dexter girls basketball turn up the defense in win over PCHS

DEXTER-  Great defense and cold shooting was the story on Saturday at Dexter high school. Megan Peach scored nine points, including going 7-9 from the free throw line (4-5 in the 4th quarter) to lead the Dexter Tigers to a 22-18 victory over Piscataquis community high school (PCHS) in the early afternoon game.

Dexter jumped out to the 7-4 lead after the first quarter, before getting outscored 3-0 in the second quarter.  Dexter got on the scoreboard early in the third quarter , after  the referee handed PCHS coach Brian Gaw a technical foul. Peach made one of two free throws to give the Tigers an 8-7 lead.

Cidney Pratt gave the Tigers a four point (11-7) lead when she made a deep three pointer. The Tigers built the lead to 15-10 heading into the fourth quarter.

Dexter locked down the victory from the free throw line in the fourth quarter. Peach made her four and Skylar Theodore made a free throw to make the  four point difference with three seconds remaining. Ashley Reynolds also made a very important shot late in the fourth quarter.

Peach pulled down 11 rebounds to go along with her nine points. Reynolds added four points, Pratt and Theodore scored three points each. Katie Batron scored two points and pulled down six rebounds, while Abby Webber went 1-2 from the free throw line.

Delani Bennet led the Pirates with nine points, 10 block shots, and eight rebounds. Erin Speed filled up the stat sheet with four points, 10 steals, five rebounds, and two assists. Jordynne Littlefield added three points, and Lexi Harris chipped in with two points.

Dexter shot 9-15 from the free throw line, PCHS shot 5-15 from the line. Dexter (4-0)  will next play on Wednesday night when they host Penobscot Valley. PCHS (2-1) is scheduled to host Stesrns on Tuesday night.
