Maine women cruise past Bryant

Bangor- The University of Maine Women’s basketball team shot a sizzling 58 percent from the field and held visiting Bryant to just under 28 percent in cruising to an easy 76-38 non-conference victory Saturday afternoon at the Cross Insurance Center in front of 1,533 fans.

“Today everything was clicking, we weren’t forcing anything and we were good defensively. If we play like this, every game is winnable”, said Maine head coach Richard Barron.

Maine turned an early 5-4 deficit into a 20-5 lead with 1:18 left in the first quarter by going on a 16-0 run.

Maine forced Bryant into 25 turnovers on the afternoon resulting in 27 Black Bear points. Maine built the lead to 23 at the half and shot an astounding 66 percent in the opening 20 minutes of play. Maine led by as many as 42 in the fourth quarter to seal their 8th win of the season.

Breanna Rucker had 8 points and a game high 11 rebounds for Bryant (2-7).  Ivory Bailey chipped in with 7 while Alex Klein had 6 points and 6 rebounds.

Sigi Koizar scored a game high 18 points to lead Maine and Liz Wood has 15 points 4 rebounds and 6 steals and also moved into 9th place on the Black Bears all time scoring list.  Sophie Weckstrom had 10 and Chantel Charles contributed 7 points and 4 rebounds.

Maine (8-4) now will prepare to host another non-conference opponent as Clemson from the ACC will visit the Cross Insurance Center next Friday night, December 18th. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
