ORONO- A goal by UConn forward Sean Pauley almost six and a half minutes into the opening period Friday night proved to be the game winner as the UConn Huskies skated away with a 1-0 Hockey East victory over the Maine Black Bears before 3,215 fans at Alfond Arena Friday night.

The rebound goal, the 4th of the season for Pauley, was one of only 19 shots the Huskies were able to put on Maine freshman goalie Rob McGovern.  On the other end Maine was able to pepper UConn goalie Rob Nichols with 44 shots but the junior was able to stop everything that Maine threw his way to record his second straight shutout.

Maine was 0 for 4 on the powerplay with 15 shots during those chances but couldn’t solve Nichols. UConn was 0 for 2 on their powerplay chances on the evening.

Maine drops to 5-13-4 and 2-6-1 in Hockey East play with the loss while UConn improves to 8-13-1 and 4-7-1 in league play.

The two teams will finish off their two game series on Saturday night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
