Courtney Veilleux and Sonja Morse power Thomas softball to first win

Courtney Veilleux had three hits, while Sonja Morse pitched a complete game to lead the Thomas Terriers to an 8-2 victory over Worcester State on Tuesday afternoon at Clermont, Florida.

The Terriers jumped out quickly when they took a lead during the top of the first inning. Morse drew a two out walk, advanced to second base on a wild pitch, and scored on a single from Korrie Laren.

Laren started the fourth inning with a single, she came around to score on a base hit from Lindsy Hoopingarner. Morse sparked a four run fifth inning with a two run double.

Veilleux added one run scored and one RBI. Laren, Hoopingarner, and Madison Bentz recorded two hits each. Lexi Colpack had two RBI from the lead off spot. Morse allowed two runs on seven hits and three walks, while striking out five.

Thomas (1-3) fell in their second game of the afternoon to D’Youville (N.Y.) 11-6. The Terriers held a 5-2 lead after the first inning, D’Youville scored seven runs during the sixth inning to get the come from behind victory. Bentz, Hoopingarner, and Jordan Agger each had two hits in game two for the Thomas. The Terriers have nine more games this week in Florida, including two on Wednesday.
