Flowers remains red hot in circle as Black Bears split doubleheader at Rhode Island

The University of Maine softball team flexed their muscles, while Molly Flowers continued to do her thing in the circle in lifting the Black Bears to a 9-0 victory over the University of Rhode Island on Wednesday afternoon at Kingston, Rhode Island in game one of a doubleheader.

Maine scored three runs in the first inning to take control. Alyssa Derrick, Rachel Harvey, and Felicia Lennon each hit a home run for the Black Bears. Lennon had four RBI, while Harvey had three runs scored and three RBI. Flowers pitched five scoreless innings, allowing three hits and two walks, while striking out three. Flowers is now 7-5 with an earned run average of 2.33. She has struck out 79 in 57 innings.

In game two, Rhode Island scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull off the 10-9 walk off victory.

Maine (11-12) will open up conference play with a three game series at a Stony Brook this weekend.
