Chris’s Weekend College Hockey Predictions

December 17, 2016

A slow schedule this weekend as most teams are on their Christmas break, but I will be picking some non-conference matchups of some nationally ranked teams. A 2-2 mark last week still leaves me with a good looking record so far.

Last week- 2-2-0 Season record- 23-12-5

Last weeks results:

Friday 12/9

Maine 5 AIC 3 correct pick

Vermont 4 BU 2 incorrect pick

Saturday 12/10

Maine 7 AIC 2 correct pick

BU 4 Vermont 0 incorrect pick

This weeks games:

Saturday, December 17

#1 Minnesota-Deluth (11-3-3) at Bemidji State (13-5-3)

These two teams are playing a non-conference home and home this weekend and tied 1-1 Friday night at Minnesota-Deluth.

The pick- Both excellent hockey teams makes it a hard pick but I will go with the home squad to upset #1. BEMIDJI STATE 3, MINNESOTA-DELUTH 2

#13 Union (12-3-2) at #11 Vermont (10-4-2)

The Dutchmen from Union invade Gutterson FieldHouse to battle one of the nations hottest teams in the Catamounts. Union swept a pair from Brown and Yale on the road last weekend, while Vermont hadn’t been beaten in seven games until a Saturday night 4-0 home loss to Boston University, splitting that two game series.

The pick- Vermont is way more battle tested to this point in the season with a stronger schedule. I will stay with the home ‘Cats on this night. VERMONT 3, UNION 1

Sunday, December 18

Northeastern (5-7-4) at Michigan State (4-8-1)

Both of these teams have been underachieving to this point as they both look to get going in a battle in East Lansing. Northeastern hasn’t played since a 5-3 loss to Boston College on 12/6. The Spartans were swept at home against Minnesota last weekend.

The pick- No particular reason I am taking the road team here, but I feel the Huskies have a much better upside this season than the Spartans. NORTHEASTERN 4, MICHIGAN ST 3

Union at Vermont

Night two at Gutterson in the matchup of top 15 teams.

The pick- Union escapes with a road weekend split. UNION 5, VERMONT 3
