Maine Womens Basketball rides hot shooting in comfortable win at Bryant

The University of Maine womens basketball team shot over 50 percent from the floor Saturday afternoon in rolling to a convincing 77-52 over Bryant at Chace Athletic Center in Smithfield, Rhode Island.

Sigi Koizar led the way with 20 points, five rebounds and two assists as Maine improved to 6-5 overall on the season and won their third straight game. Tanesha Sutton added 12 points, six rebounds, six assists, and three steals. Blanca Millan added 11 points. Maine also knocked down 12 from behind the three point arc on the afternoon.

A game of runs by the Black Bears saw Maine down 14-12 in the first quarter, before running off a 14 straight points to take an 11 point lead. Maine also ran off 13 straight in the second to go up 20 at 45-25 at halftime. Bryant rallied to within 10 points in the fourth quarter, before the Black Bears ran off another 14 straight to take their biggest lead of the game at 24 points. Maine outscored Bryant 19-4 to end the game, after the Bulldogs had cut it to 10. Bryant turned the ball over 24 times, allowing the visitors to outscore them 31-6 in points off turnovers.

Freshman Sydney Holloway led Bryant (4-6) with 16 points while Alex Klein added 11 points and five rebounds.

Maine returns to action Monday afternoon in the Miami tournament in Miami, Florida when they face East Tennessee State University at 3 p.m. Bryant will host UMass-Lowell next Wednesday at 4 p.m.
