Spieth helps Brown rally past Maine Men in College Basketball action Thursday night

The University of Maine Mens basketball team held a 13 point halftime lead Thursday night, but couldn’t hold on as the Brown Bears rallied with 55 second half points to earn an 82-77 win at the Pizzitola Sports Center in Providence, Rhode Island.

Several Black Bears finished in double figures in scoring on the evening. Andrew Fleming had his second straight double double effort with 23 points and 14 rebounds. Wes Myers had 16 points, three rebounds, an assist, and three blocks. Austin Howard had 14 points, three rebounds, and an asssist. And Marko Pirovic also chipped in 11 points, five rebounds, and a steal. This was the third straight loss for Maine, who falls to 4-9.

Steven Speith, younger brother of PGA pro Jordan Speith, had a career high 27 points in improving Brown to 8-5 on the season. Speith also had eight rebounds, and four assists. Tavon Blackmon had 16 points, two rebounds, four assists, and a steal. JR Hobbie had 15 and Travis Fuller recorded a double double with 11 points and 10 rebounds to help Brown to victory.

Maine shot 50 percent from the floor, including 8-21 from the three point arc, and 11-18 from the foul line. Brown was 39 percent from the floor, 11-26 from the arc, and 27-36 from the line. Maine had 15 turnovers, while Brown had 10.

Maine returns to action next Friday when they travel to battle Buffalo at 7 p.m. Brown will host Quinnipiac next Thursday at 7 p.m.
