New Champs in Town: Gray-New Gloucester Girls Down Houlton for Class B State Title

AUGUSTA: Gray-New Gloucester Girls found themselves on the losing side of the State title game last year after falling to Houlton but they had other ideas this year as they dethroned 2-time defending State Champ Houlton Shiretowners 35-31  winning their first ever Gold-Ball at the Augusta Civic Center Friday Night.

A low scoring first half saw GNG pull ahead after Alicia Dumont hit a 3 at the buzzer to give the Patriots a 16-11 lead, a lead that they would not lose for the remainder of the contest.

Shye Conley who had a huge second half as she put up 12 points for the Patriots she also had 12 rebounds and five blocks. Behind her was Brianna Jordan who had seven points, two coming off free throws to ice the game in the final seconds to give them the win. As a team the Patriots out rebounded the Shiretowners 36-22.

For Houlton they were lead by Kolleen Bouchard who lead the team with 16 points. As a team the Shiretowners had 10 steals and 22 rebounds.
