Mayweather beats McGregor in highly anticipated fight

August 27, 2017

In one of the most anticipated and unlikely boxing matches in history, Floyd “Money” Mayweather beat Conor McGregor by technical knockout in the 10th round Saturday night in a junior middleweight bout at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

McGregor, out of the UFC, took some punishment from Mayweather as the fight got into the later rounds. In the seventh round, Mayweather landed a right hand that snapped McGregors head back. In the ninth round, Mayweather continued the assault landing several clean right hands that took a big toll on McGregor.

By the time the fight reached the 10th round McGregor had clearly run of steam. Mayweather landed yet another huge right hand that nearly knocked McGregor down, then followed that up with at least 12 unanswered punches as McGregor clung to the ropes. Referee Robert Byrd stepped in to stop the fight just 1 minute and 5 seconds into that 10th round to give the victory to Mayweather.

McGregor, who is the third ranked pound for pound fighter in UFC, had a professional record of 21-3 in the UFC entering the match. He is now 0-1 in the sport of boxing, and isn’t clear yet on whether he will continue in the sport or simply stay in the UFC.

Mayweather goes to 50-0, with 27 of those by knockout. It was his first knockout since he knocked out Victor Ortiz in the fourth round in 2011.

“This ladies and gentlemen was my last fight”, said Mayweather after the victory.
