Hermon wins first boys basketball state championship in school history

BANGOR– The Hermon Hawks capped a dominating season with a 55-34 win over Wells in the Maine Principals’ Association class B boys basketball state championship game played Friday night at the Cross Insurance Center. It is the first boys basketball state championship in school history for Hermon.

Wells held their last lead at 6-4. The Hawks went on an 8-0 run to take a 12-6 lead. They went on a 9-2 run that extended into the second quarter, Hermon (22-0) didn’t hold a lead less than nine points the rest of the way.

Wells had the deficit down to 42-31 early in the fourth quarter. The Hawks followed that with a 10-0 run to put the game away. Matt Sherburne scores a team high 13 points for the Warriors. Cameron Cousins and Tyler Bridge added 10 points each. Wells finished the season with a 15-7 record.

Jacob Godfrey scored 16 of his game high 21 points in the first half for the Hawks. Cody Hawes put in 11, Garrett Trask also finished in double figures with 10.
