Winslow stymies Lake Region en route to first State Title since 2005

March 2, 2018

BANGOR-  Class B Girls was a wide open race this year, multiple top teams ending with the same or pretty close to the same records. That rang true for the two surviving teams in Class B, from the north was the Winslow Black Raiders a #6 seed and from the South, the Lake Region Lakers a #4 seed. Both teams defeating top seeds on their way to the State Title game. In the end, it was the Winslow Black Raiders clinching their first State Title since 2005 after they stymied Lake Region 43-29 Friday Night.

For Winslow, it was a dominating performance from start to finish. Their defense dominates as it had been the whole tournament and as usual their offense clicking on all cylinders. Senior Hailey Ward led the way with 10 points and four rebounds, Silver Clukey came up big as well putting up eight points six of those came as two big three-pointers in the second and third quarters. Defensively, Winslow was able to slow down what was a good Lake Region offense holding them to only 29 points, Weslee Littlefield came up huge defensively and at the line picking up six rebounds and going 7 for 10 at the foul line late in the game.

As for Lake Region after putting on an offensive performance in their last two games, tonight was the complete opposite as the Lakers struggled to make their shots. They were lead by the two Seniors Chandler True who had a team-high 13 points and Lauren Jakobs who had 10.
