George Stevens explodes in fourth quarter to grab win over Calais

BANGOR– The George Stevens Eagles went on a 13-0 run in the fourth quarter and rolled to a 50-42 win over Calais on Thursday night at the Cross Insurance Center in the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame Classic.

George Stevens didn’t hold a lead until Andrew Szwez put in the first score of the fourth quarter. John Turner gave the Eagles the lead back quickly. Szwez followed that up with another basket to start the big fourth quarter run.

Reece Dannenberg made 3 three pointers. He hit his first one to beat the third quarter buzzer. He connected on two more early in the fourth quarter.

Calais started the game on a 7-0 run. The Blue Devils held a 16-13 after the first quarter behind seven points from Blake Collins. Percy Zentz kept the game close by putting in nine of his 13 points in the first quarter.

George Stevens outscored Calais 22-8 in the fourth quarter. Zentz and Szwez powered the Eagles with 13 points each. George Stevens (5-1) will host Central on Saturday. Collins scored a game high 16 points for the Blue Devils. Calais (1-4) will travel to Houlton on Saturday.
