Mattanawcook starts quick in girls basketball win over George Stevens

BANGOR- The Mattanawcook Academy Lynx raced out to a 13-4 lead after the first quarter and held on for a 40-27 win over George Stevens at the Cross Insurance Center in the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame Classic on Thursday afternoon.

Emily Tolman scored seven of her team high 11 points in the first eight minutes of play. The Lynx defense held the Eagles to two field goals and only seven points in the first half as they held a 22-7 halftime lead.

Katy Libby put in eight points (all in the first half), Bella Farrington had seven points, while Katy Tolman chipped in with six points. Mattanawcook (3-4) will host Houlton on January 2nd.

Julianna Allen scored a game high 14 points (13 in second half) for the Eagles. George Stevens (1-5) will play at Calais on January 2nd.
