January 8, 2019

The #1 team in all of women’s Divsion III basketball invaded Newman Gymnasium on Tuesday night to battle the Husson Eagles. And the #1 Bowdoin Polar Bears showed why they are the top of that poll, cruising past the Eagles 86-48 in non-conference action.

Bowdoin (13-0) started quickly and never trailed in this matchup, scoring the first nine points of the game, and not allowing a Husson score for just over the first five minutes. The Polar Bears led by 13 at the end of the first, and by 23 at the half. They would later extend that to 34 late in the third, and the final margin of 38 was their largest lead. Husson shot 35 percent from the floor, and 4-10 from three point range, while Bowdoin shot 41 percent and hit 14-34 from the arc. The Polar Bears outrebounded the Eagles 51-31, and won the turnover battle only committing 10 while Husson committed 20. Bowdoin outscored Husson 23-9 on points off turnovers.

Taylor Choate led four players in double figures for Bowdoin with 15 points, four rebounds, six assists, and three steals. Annie Boasberg came off the bench to score 14, and grab five rebounds. Abby Kelly had 13 points, five rebounds, and two assists, while Sela Kay also chipped in 10 points. Kenzie Worcester led Husson (7-6) with 13 points, three rebounds, two assists, and one steal. The only other Eagle in double figures was Megan Peach, who had 10 points, 10 rebounds, and two blocked shots.
