January 8, 2019

At TD Garden in Boston, the Boston Bruins continued their attempt to climb up the Atlantic Division and Eastern Conference standings Tuesday night with their fifth straight victory, a 4-0 whitewashing of the Minnesota Wild.

Boston (25-14-4) got all the scoring they would need and more in the first period. Goals by Danton Heinen at 5:23, Brad Marchand at 11:23, and a powerplay marker by Jake Debrusk at 19:15 made it 3-0. Captain Patrice Bergeron added another powerplay goal at 6:24 of the second, as the Bruins cruised to the win.

Marchand and Bergeron each had a goal and an assist. John Moore and Torey Krug each added two assists each. Tuuka Rask stopped all 24 shots on goal to get the win, while Minnesota goalie Alex Stalock made 23 of 27 stops in the loss. The Bruins were 2-2 on the powerplay, while the Wild were 0-3. Boston is currently in third place in the Atlantic Division with 54 points, just two points behind second place Toronto. They have also moved up to a fourth place tie in the Eastern Conference with Pittsburgh, just two points behind both Toronto and Washington who are second and both have 56 points. The B’s face those Washington Capitals on Thursday night at TD Garden at 7 pm.

The Boston Celtics also hope to continue their lastest winning streak of three games, when they host a Wednesday night affair against one of the teams that is currently ahead of them in the Eastern Conference in the Indiana Pacers.

Boston (24-15) is coming off impressive home wins over the Minnesota Timberwolves (115-102), the Dallas Mavericks (114-93), and the Brooklyn Nets (116-95). Indiana (27-13) is also coming in red hot having won seven of their last eight. The Celts seemed to be getting healthier and starting to play better basketball, putting eight players in double figures in their most recent win Monday over the Nets. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 pm at TD Garden.
