Mattanawcook advances to set up semifinal showdown with George Stevens

BANGOR– Mattanawcook held Dexter without a field goal for the first 10 minutes 30 seconds and held on for a 47-37 win in a Maine Principals’ Association Class C boys basketball quarterfinal game played Tuesday afternoon at the Cross Insurance Center.

Mattanawcook held an 8-3 after the first quarter. The Lynx built the lead up to 11 in the second quarter. Dexter cut the deficit to three with two seconds left in the second when Nathan Richards converted a three point play. Alex Brown answered with a heave from past half court to beat the buzzer that give the Lynx a 21-14 halftime lead.

Max Woodman scored nine of his team high 15 points in the second half, including going 5-6 from the free throw line. Cayden Spencer-Thompson added 11 points, including two dunks and six rebounds. Brown filled up the stat sheet with 10 points, six steals, five rebounds, and five assists. Mattanawcook (16-3) will take on George Stevens in a semifinal game on Friday afternoon at 2:05 PM. George Stevens defeated Calais in a quarterfinal game earlier on Tuesday morning.

Haedyn Guenther led the Tigers with a team high 16 points. Guenther also had seven rebounds. Nathan Richards added nine points. Dexter finishes the season with a 15-5 record.
