Endicott pulls away from Husson in key conference matchup

October 26, 2019

BANGOR, Me- The Endicott Gulls scored 17 fourth quarter points on Saturday afternoon and amassed over 450 yards of offense while taking advantage of four turnovers, and pulled away from the Husson Eagles for a 41-16 Commonwealth Coast Conference football win at Winkin Complex on the campus of Husson University.

Endicott (6-1, 4-0 CCC) showed why they are on of the top teams in the conference taking the opening kickoff and marching down the field in four plays that covered 66 yards. Gulls quarterback Joe Kalosky hit wide receiver Shea McManaway for a 28 yard touchdown for a quick 7-0 lead just 1:48 in. Husson couldn’t do anything with their first possession but a good punt backed Endicott up at their own 4 yard line. The Eagles then forced a Gulls punt and with good field position would march 54 yards on nine plays keyed by a 11 yard Tyler Halls reception on a 4th down and 4 play. Quarterback David Morrison hit Halls on an eight yard touchdown to tie the score 7-7. Hussons Zach Connolly then came up with an interception of Kalosky at the Gulls 38. Six plays later the drive stalled at the Endicott 5 yard line and Devin Pickett came on for a 22 yard field goal for a 10-7 Husson lead that they held after one quarter.

A 46 yard field goal early in the second quarter by Endicotts Nick Dicairano tied the game 10-10. On the Eagles next possession Morrison was intercepted on a slant pass by Kevin O’Brien at his own 30 that was returned 27 yards to the Husson 3. On the second play from the 3 Kalosky was intercepted by Brandon Williams at the goal line that Williams returned 62 yards to the Gulls 38. Husson drove into the redzone and got a key 10 yard pass from Morrison to Aidan Hogan on a 4th and 4 from the 17 yard line. On third and goal at the 1 Morrison faked to the running back on playaction and hit Hogan for a score. The extra point was blocked and Husson led 16-10. On the ensuing kickoff the Gulls return man thought that ball was going out of bounds and touched it. The ball did stay in bounds and the Eagles pounced on it for a recovery at the Endicott 31. Morrison however threw a interception on the first play from the 31. The Gulls took advantage as Kalosky found Anthony Bracamonte on a 50 yard TD pass to regain the lead for the visitors for good. Morrison threw his third interception of the first half on a 3rd and 11 just minutes later that was returned 23 yards to the Eagles 1. Anthony Whiteley went in for the short scoring run and the Gulls led 24-16 at the break.

Husson (2-5, 2-2) dominated the third quarter but couldn’t crack the scoreboard. The Eagles used nearly 10 minutes off the clock in the opening possession of the quarter. The hosts had two penalties though to back them up forcing a 4th and goal from the Gulls 15 in which Morrison fired incomplete for a turnover on downs. Later it was the same story marching to the Endicott 7 yard line and failing on an incomplete Morrison pass on 4th and goal. The failed opportunities ended up biting Husson as Dicairano nailed a 41 yard field goal early in the fourth to extend to a 27-16 Endicott lead to begin a quarter that was taken over by the Gulls. Later Kalosky scored on a 2 yard QB keeper. Then after a fourth interception by Morrison that was also returned inside the Husson 5 by Grayson Maddox, Kalosky hit McManaway for the second time for a 4 yard scoring play. Husson has now lost two in a row after a two game win streak, and is now two games behind both Endicott and Western New England who is also 4-0 for the top spot in the conference.

Morrison finished the day 16-33 passing for 175 yards, with two touchdowns and four interceptions. Shawn Noel Jr. rudhed 33 times for 104 yards. Halls caught four passes for 55 yards and a touchdown. Hogan added four for 40 yards and a score. Kaleb Caron had eight total tackles while David Redmond had six to lead the defense. Kalosky was 12-22 passing for 291 yards, with three touchdowns and a rushing score and one interception. Greg Ruff led the running game for the winners with nine carries for 50 yards. McManaway had a huge game with five receptions for 161 yards and two touchdowns. Tim Russell and Allen Gibson both had eight total tackles to lead the Gulls.

Husson hits the road for more CCC action next Saturday when they battle Nichols College at 12 p.m.
