#4 GSA Rolls Over #1 Sumner, Advances to Class C North Final

Bangor,ME- The #4 seeded George Stevens Academy Eagles (11-2-3) rolled over the previously undefeated Sumner Memorial High School Tigers (14-1-1) 7-0 In the Class C North Semi Finals Saturday night at Boucher Field at Husson University.

FIRST HALF- Sumner attacked early, getting a break away just six and half minutes into the game, Senior Damon Warren put a slow rolling shot past Eagles keeper Parker Allen but was negated because of an offsides, Warren and Allen collided on the play, Warren was helped off and did not return to the game.

Ten Minutes later, Eagles senior Andrew Zefanya scored off a corner kick to put the Eagles up 1-0. With a little over sixteen minutes to go, Senior Nate Mason scored his first of two goals on the night to give GSA a 2-0 lead, which stood going into halftime. Sumner could not generate much chances in the half.

SECOND HALF- GSA opened the second half firing, netting three goals in less than ten minutes into the second half. Coming from Mason, and seniors Owen Vinall and Lars Hooper to put the Eagles up 5-0. Vinall and Junior Franklin Sealander each added a goal late in the half to give the Eagles the 7-0 win. Sumner once again could not produce many scoring chances, they finish their season 14-1-1.

This is GSA’s third time reaching the Class C North Finals in four seasons, previously reaching the finals in 2016 and 2017, all led by Head Coach Mark Ensworth.

“This team is unbelievable” Ensworth said. “They finally put it all together tonight.” he said.

Eagles senior captain Owen Vinall was a sophomore when the Eagles last headed to the regional finals, scored twice tonight. “We came right out of the gate running.” he said. ” We did what we needed to do and put goals in the back of the net.” he said.

The #4 seeded Eagles will face #3 Mount View High School who defeated Fort Kent 2-0 Friday night to advance to the regional final.

“Mount View is tough.” Ensworth said “They are kind of that unknown in class c right now.” he said.

“We just got to go into that game with the same Mentality we did tonight.” Vinall said.

The Class C North Regional Final game is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday at 5pm at Johnson Field in Presque Isle.
