Husson basketball teams knock off UMaine-Fort Kent

The Husson Eagles basketball teams both played the University of Maine-Fort Kent at Newman Gymnasium in Bangor Sunday afternoon, and both stayed unbeaten in their short season.

On the women’s side, Husson scored 11 of the last 16 points of the game to secure a 62-54 win over the visiting UMFK Bengals.

Vanessa Duarte led the way with 24 points, nine rebounds, three assists, and three steals for the 5-0 Eagles. Sydney Allen had 11 points and eight rebounds, while Luci Rothwell added 11 points and 14 rebounds off the bench. Ranika Guyton had a game high 25 points, seven rebounds, and four assists to lead UMFK (3-2).

In the men’s game, Husson built a 19 point halftime lead and would cruise over UMFK 93-65.

DJ Bussey had 15 points to lead the 8-0 Eagles. Scott Lewis had 13 points and nine rebounds, while Justin Thompson had 12 points and nine rebounds and Justice Kendall and J Thomas had 11 points a piece. Julian Hayes had a game high 23 points, seven rebounds, and four assists to lead the Bengals (0-4).

Both Husson teams will finish off the abbreviated 2021 season by playing two games each (home and home) with Saint Joseph’s College on Friday and Sunday.
