Bruins blank the Devils to clinch playoff berth

The Boston Bruins got goals from three different players and Tuuka Rask picked up a shutout in net, en route to a 3-0 victory over the New Jersey Devils at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey Monday night. With the win Boston officially clinched a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs for a fifth straight season.

Nick Ritchie scored the game winner breaking a scorless tie at 9:08 of the second period. Patrice Bergeron added another at 17:54, and Matt Grzeclyk finished off the scoring with an insurance tally at the 17:17 mark of the third. Bergeron added an assist to go along with his 20th goal of the season, and Brad Marchand also added two assists on the night. Rask made 20 saves, as the B’s outshot the Devils 42-20. Scott Wedgewood made 39 stops in defeat for New Jersey (17-28-7). Boston wins for the third time in seven meetings this season with New Jersey.

Boston is now 31-14-6 and took back the third spot in the East Divison by a point over the New York Islanders, who lost 4-2 to the Buffalo Sabres on Monday. The Bruins play the Devils against Tuesday night with now just five games left in the regular season.
