Avery Herrick and Ana Lang share female athlete of the week honors

Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations during the week to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 338 past athlete of the week winners.

This week we had eight Rowells Garage female athlete of the week nominations.  Avery Herrick (Dexter) and Ana Lang (Searsport) will share the female athlete of the week honors this week. Herrick struck out 53 in four games and hit 2 three run homers. Herrick has helped Dexter win nine straight, including all four this week.It is the fourth athlete of the week honor for Herrick. It is the third straight week that Lang has earned athlete of the week honors. Lang struck out 74 in five games and had 11 RBI. Herrick and Lang edged out Jaida Case (Machias) in the voting.

Female athlete of the week- May 24th- May 29th

  • Avery Herrick- Dexter- had 15 strikeouts  and also went 3-4 with three RBI in 6-0 win over Penquis, also went . Herrick had 10 strikeouts and had four RBI, including hitting a 3 run homer in 10-4 win over Mattanawcook. Had 14 strikeouts and didn’t issue any walks  in 12-1 win over Orono. Went 3-4, with four RBI, including a three run homer  and also 14 strike outs in 10-1 win over PCHS.
  • Ana Lang- Searsport- softball In five games this week (Stearns, Sumner, Bucksport, and Vinalhaven(2), Lang hit 5singles, 3 doubles, 2 triples, Home Run and 11 RBI. In the circle, Lang had 74 strikeouts (including 200th of the season) in 29 innings pitched.

Runner up

  • Jaida Case- Machias – softball- threw a no hitter with 14 strikeouts in 3-0 win over Woodland who was number two seed.  It was Case’s 7th straight win, she has 112 strikeouts for the season and is batting .416.

Other nominations

  • Kaelyn Parks- Central- softball- struck out 27 in 10 innings to help Central get 6-3 win over Orono and 3-1 win over George Stevens in one day.
  • Alisyn Alley- Stearns – softball- had four hits and three runs scored, plus she was the winning pitcher in 13-3 win over PCHS.
  • Dom Ouellette – Brewer- softball- had four hits, including a double, four runs scored, and four RBI in 16-3 win over MDI. Had three hits in 9-3 win over Hampden.
  • Jenna Smith- Bangor- softball- had three hits, including two homers and six RBI in 14-0 win over Cony.
  • Emily St. Cyr- PVHS- softball- With 5 games this week she pitched all 26 innings with 31 strikeouts. Allowing only eight earned runs in 8-3 and 5-4 wins over Schenck, 15-3 win over PCHS, 16-4 win over Greenville, and 6-2 loss against Lincoln. She went 8-14 on the week for batting with 4 doubles, 3 singles, and a triple. She had 7 RBI. 9 runs scored and batting average for the week was .571.
