MDI High School 2021 Golf preview

August 28, 2021

School/Sport: Mount Desert Island High School Varsity Golf

Coach: Bryan Maurais

Record of previous season

9 – 0 regular season, 3rd at PVC’s and 7th in Class B

Expectations

“Fairly high; graduation and the vaccine law took three of our top six from last year, but we have a talented group returning and hope to compete at the highest level again.” Maurais said

Strengths

“Leadership and competitiveness. We have only 1 senior, but she leads our group well. We compete hard every day, both individually and as a team. Playing Kebo Valley every day does not hurt, either.”

Weaknesses

“Youth, with six sophomores. All very competitive with bright futures, but are still growing and learning how to win consistently.” Maurais said

How the 2020 season or lack of a season impacts the team in 2021.

“For our group it worked quite well. They bonded quickly and took each day as a challenge and did not use any of the protocols in place as an excuse. For our younger kids, it was a good preview of what was to come in a normal season and we feel they are better prepared for that now,” Maurais added, “Our program totals 26 kids, something we are very proud of. Our JV team does a wonderful job of developing skills as well as continued interest in the game.”
