Howlers make it six straight shutout wins, top Schenck 3-0

October 15, 2021

At East Millinocket, Penobscot Valley got two goals from Holly Loring and another from Maggie LeBlanc as they beat the Schenck Wolverines 3-0.

The Howler defense continued to give their opponents fits as they notched their 6th straight shutout on the season, and 10th overall.  PVHS has only let up 4 goals in 12 games.
Loring got the scoring started 18 minutes into the game, when Ashlyn St. Cyr trapped a Schenck goal-kick just beyond the 18 yard line. St. Cyr quickly sent a left-footed pass to a streaking Loring, who 1-timed a low shot into the left corner of the net.
Penobscot Valley would get their second goal 8 minutes later, when LeBlanc collected the ball about 30 yards out and blasted a straight on shot from beyond the 18 past goalkeeper Brooklyn McAvoy. The score remained 2-0 at the half.
The final goal of the game came with 25 minutes remaining.  Lila Cummings had the ball near the left corner, where the Schenck defense cut off her attack. Cummings dropped a pass back to Emma Potter, who sent a beautiful pass to the center of the field to Loring.  Loring did the rest by settling the ball and scoring just underneath the crossbar.
Emilee Ireland saved all 5 shots that she saw for the 11-1 Howlers, who will travel to Woodland for their final regular season game next Friday. McAvoy stopped 22 of 37 shots for the Wolverines, who concluded their regular season at 6-4-1.
