January 31, 2022

GUILFORD- Bryce Connor led the way with a game high 18 points and six rebounds on Monday night, as the Dexter Tigers completed a girl/boy doubleheader sweep with a 51-30 Class C North boys basketball win over the PCHS Pirates in a game played at PCHS.

A big first quarter from Connor (7 points) sparked a good start for Dexter, who never trailed in the game. The Tigers ended the first eight minutes on an 11-1 run and led 16-4. That run was extended to 15-1 to start the second as Kayden Kimball and Will Spratt both scored baskets to extend the advantage to 20-4. The lead would go to as many as 21 as the guests led 30-12 at the break. Will Kusnierz scored six points in the third quarter, while Kimball, Avery Gagnon, and Seth Robbins added two each as the Tigers continued their strong play also on the defensive end while extending that lead to 40-16 after three. PCHS (2-11) wasn’t done though as they made a strong run to start the fourth. Baskets by Matt Chadbourne, Buddy Hutchins, a three point play by Trevor Halthorn, and then two from the line from Halthorn and Scott Chadbourne helped ignite an 11-0 Pirates run to slice it to 40-27 with still 3:46 to play. Dexter (11-3) would put it away though with nine straight points to push it back to 22, helped by six more points from Gagnon.

Along with the game high from Connor, Gagnon finished with 13 points, six rebounds, and three assists in the win. Kusnierz added six points, eight rebounds, and three blocks. Kimball had six points, seven rebounds, two assists, and two blocks. Robbins chipped in four points, as did Spratt who also contributed five rebounds, three assists, and three blocks. Connor was named the Bangor Savings Bank Player of the Game. Halthorn led PCHS in the loss with 11 points. Hutchins had eight points and 10 rebounds, Scott Chadbourne had six points, Matt Chadbourne two points and five rebounds, Alex Lyon two points and six rebounds, and Gabe Soctomah added one free throw for one point. The teams next both face Central, as PCHS host the Red Devils on Thursday and Dexter does the same on Friday.
