January 31, 2022

GUILFORD- Jozlynn Paige, Elizabeth Kinney, and Abilene Corson all scored in double figures on Monday evening, leading the Dexter Tigers to a 50-28 Class C North girls basketball win over the Piscataquis Community High School (PCHS) Pirates in a game played at PCHS.

Dexter (8-4) had early leads of 4-0 and 6-3, before PCHS came alive with five straight points sparked by a basket from Abbey Ricker and 3-4 from the line by Sydney Hutchins for an 8-6 advantage. The Pirates led 10-8 after eight minutes. Ricker gave the hosts their final lead of the night with a three-pointer in the second quarter at 13-12, before baskets by Kinney and Paige made it 16-13 Tigers at halftime. Another basket from Paige and a three-pointer from the freshman Corson made it 21-13 early in the third. PCHS answered with a bucket from Elizabeth Kendall and a three point play from Hutchins to slice it to 21-18, but that is as close as they’d be the rest of the way. Corson had all 10 of her points in the period, and Dexter led 34-25 headed to the fourth. The visiting Tigers put it away scoring the first nine points of the final quarter, and the 22 point margin of victory was the largest lead of the night.

Paige led the way in the win with 18 points and six rebounds. Kinney had 14 points and seven assists and was named the Bangor Savings Bank Player of the Game. Corson finished with 10 points. Hannah Dean also added eight points and nine rebounds. PCHS (5-7) was led by Kendall who had 12 points, five rebounds, and three blocks. Abbey Ricker had 10 points and four rebounds, while Hutchins chipped in six points. Both teams play again on Thursday, as Dexter will host Stearns and PCHS plays host to Central.
