Shane and Kashman Feeney lead Machias into regional final

BANGOR- Shane Feeney had a double double with 28 points and 12 rebounds, and his brother Kashman Feeney added 19 points and six rebounds as the Machias Bulldogs pulled away from the Wisdom Pioneers 72-34 in a Class D boys semifinal played at the Cross Insurance Center Thursday night. Machias will try to defend their regional title on Saturday morning.

Machias (17-0) never trailed and took an early 5-1 lead. Logan Lagasse hit a three-pointer for Wisdom to pull the Pioneers within 7-6. The Bulldogs then would score the final four points of the opening eight minutes, and then the first 12 of the second quarter extending out to a 23-6 advantage. The lead went to as many as 19 and was 32-15 at the halftime break. Wisdom would pull within 14 twice early in the third quarter on three-pointers by Dominick Gendreau and Lagasse, but Machias responded to that with nine points in a row (13-4 run) to push it back to 50-27 headed to the fourth. The Bulldogs outscored the Pioneers 22-7 in the final period, and the 38 point margin of victory was the largest lead of the night.

Along with the big games by the Feeneys, Kyle Anderson also chipped in 10 points and eight rebounds and Jayden Rhodes tallied eight points for Machias. The Bulldogs outrebounded the Pioneers 33-15. Carter Pelletier led Wisdom in the loss with 11 points and five rebounds, as the #4 seed ends their season with a record of 13-6. Gendreau added 10 points. #1 Machias will face #2 Southern Aroostook (18-1) for the regional title at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday.
