Husson men’s and women’s basketball prepare for NAC Championship games on Saturday

The Husson Eagles men’s and women’s basketball teams both prepare to battle the SUNY-Poly Wildcats on Saturday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference Championship games.

The Eagles men’s team (14-9) got a last second three-pointer by J Thomas for a 64-63 win over UMaine-Farmington in the East Division Semifinals last Saturday at Newman Gymnasium in Bangor. Husson will stay at home to battle the West Division Semifinal winner SUNY-Poly (18-9). The Wildcats won the lone regular season meeting between the two teams 70-60 back on January 14 in Bangor, and advanced to Saturdays title game with an 82-57 victory over SUNY-Delhi. Josh Gregory leads the Wildcats with 21.4 points per game, while Husson is being led by DJ Bussey and Justin Thompson who average 15.4 and 14.6 ppg respectively. The game Saturday is scheduled for a 1 p.m. tip time at Newman Gym. The Eagles men will try to capture their first conference title since the 2018-19 season.

On the women’s side, the Eagles (18-5) got a huge game out of NAC Player of the Year Bailey Donovan who had 24 points and 19 rebounds in a 66-55 win over top seed Maine Maritime Academy in the East Division Semifinals. Husson now heads to Marcy, New York to play the host SUNY-Poly in the championship game. The Wildcats are 19-6 and advanced to this title game by defeating SUNY-Canton 84-44 in the West Semifinals. Lyrick Jackson and Molly Burdick lead the way with 20.1 and 18.4 points per game respectively. Donovan has enjoyed a career year in her junior season, averaging 20.4 points per contest, 13.9 rebounds, almost two blocks, and is shooting 63.8% from the floor. The teams did not meet in the regular season. The women’s tipoff in New York is set for 2 p.m. Saturday. Husson will go for their sixth straight NAC Title.
