Southern Aroostook wins fourth consecutive girls basketball regional championship

BANGOR— The Southern Aroostook girls basketball team defeated Wisdom 59-26 on Saturday morning to capture their fourth consecutive regional championship.

The Warriors started the game on a 12-2 run and held a 19-8 advantage after the first quarter.  Cami Shields had 12 points in the first half, including nine in the first quarter as Southern Aroostook led 28-16 at intermission.

Madison Russell and Emmalee Landry powered a Southern Aroostook 12-0 run to start the second half. Russell (7) and Landry (5) combined for all the points in the run.  Russell put in a basket to beat the buzzer and give the Warriors  a 42-18 lead heading into the final eight minutes of play.

Landy scored all 12 of her points in the second half, including eight in the final quarter. Russell scored a game high 16 points for the Warriors, including nine in the third quarter. Russell also had eight steals, five rebounds, and three assists. Cami Shields had 12 points (all in the first half) and four rebounds. Southern Aroostook (21-0) will play in the state championship game on March 5th at the Augusta Civic Center against Seacoast Christian or Forest Hills at 1 PM.

Southern Aroostook girls capture 4th straight regional championship

Abby Lerman scored a game high nine points for the Pioneers, while Lilly Roy and Olivia Ouellette each had five points and 10 rebounds. Wisdom finishes the season with a 17-2 record.
