November 27, 2022

Kino Lilly Jr. had a career high 32 points on Sunday afternoon, in leading Brown University to a 70-63 win over the University of Maine in a men’s basketball game played at Pizzitola Sports Center in Providence, Rhode Island. The loss snaps a four game win streak for the Black Bears.

Maine would fall behind by as many as eight in the first half on a Lilly Jr. three-pointer, before they rallied to take their only two leads of the day by one point on a jumper by Kellen Tynes and then another by Jaden Clayton. Brown regained control and went back in front for good on a three-pointer by Lilly Jr. that was a common theme on the day. The hosts held a 38-34 halftime advantage. After a three-pointer by Kristians Feierbergs sliced the deficit to one point for the Black Bears early in the second half, Brown would explode over the next 8:14 using a 24-8 run to open a 17 point lead 64-47 with 10:01 to play. Lilly Jr. had 15 of those 24 points on the run, including three consecutive from behind the three-point arc in a span of 1:41. Maine would cut it all the way down to 68-63 with a 16-4 spurt of their own with a layup from Tynes with 19 seconds left, but didn’t have enough time to come all the way back.

Tynes led Maine in the loss with 24 points, six rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Feierbergs finished with 12 points and four rebounds, while Gedi Juozapaitis also got into double figures with 10 points and five rebounds. Lilly Jr. shot 11-20 overall from the floor and 7-14 from behind the three-point line in the win for Brown. Nana Owusu-Anane had 13 points, and Paxson Wojcik added 11 points. The Bears out of the Ivy League improve to 2-4 on the season. The Black Bears are now 4-2 and will play on the road at Fordham on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m.
