MCI Boys Tennis 2022 preview

Coach: Kyle Holmstrom

2022 record: 12-2 (Lost in Class C North Semis)

Expectations: “We lost the top four players from last year’s team and return four players who gained varsity experience in Brady Rogers, Landon Ross, Hudson Holmstrom, and Cole Allen,”Holmstrom said. “We also have some other returners and newcomers who are showing solid potential and pushing them for spots. We expect to get better every single day and represent MCI and our community well.”

Strengths: Depth and athleticism;

“We have several players who can all beat each other on any given day, and most of the expected varsity contributors played soccer with good success this past fall.,” Holmstrom said. “This makes for a fun and competitive environment.”

Weaknesses: Holmstrom said, “on the whole we’re fairly inexperienced, as we have only one player who’s played much tennis from an early age.”

Coaches comment: We have over 20 players and the collective energy and attitude is fantastic. About half the team has played for a season or two now, and about half have essentially never picked up a racquet. We are seeing great enthusiasm and noticeable progress each practice. If the leaders of our team remain committed to truly learning how to play tennis with solid fundamentals and taking the right tactical approach, it should be exciting to see what we look like in the second half of the season.
