Rovers and Abby Kraemer each score twice as Maine women’s soccer routs Stonehill College

Gillian Rovers and Abby Kraemer both scored two goals on Sunday, as the Maine Black Bears stayed unbeaten through four games by defeating Stonehill College 5-1 in Easton, Massachusetts in non-conference women’s soccer action.

Rovers scored her first of the day and first of the season for the lone goal of the first half in the 35th minute on an assist from Jordan Pinette. Maine exploded in the second half, scoring four times in a span of 23 minutes. The game winner came off the foot of Abby Kraemer just over four minutes into the second stanza. She scored again just 2:31 later for a 3-0 lead. Rovers got her second of the match at the 62nd minute, while Kayla Kraemer finished the scoring for the Black Bears at 72:58. Karleigh Schultz spoiled the shutout bid for Maine goalie Kira Kutzinski by tallying for Stonehill College unassisted in the 76th minute.

Kutzinski made four saves in net in the win for Maine. She has allowed just two goals in the four contests played so far. Doirann Fahey, Julie Lossius, Luise Reinwald, and Tegan Morrison also added one assist each. The Black Bears improve to 3-0-1 on the season. Mia Jackson made four saves on nine shots in the loss for Stonehill College out of the Northeast Conference. The Skyhawks fall to 0-3. Maine will travel to Merrimack College on Thursday at 4 p.m. to face another NEC opponent in the Warriors.
