Maine women’s ice hockey swept by #12 UConn

The #12 University of Connecticut Huskies held Maine to just one goal in a weekend two game series, sweeping the women’s Hockey East games from the Black Bears on Friday and Saturday afternoon at Alfond Arena in Orono.

On Friday- Despite outshooting UConn 21-13, Maine would fall 1-0. The Huskies got the game winner on the powerplay at 16:02 of the first period from Jada Habisch. Jordan Mattison made 12 saves in net in the defeat for the Black Bears. Tia Chan stopped all 21 shots she faced in the shutout for UConn.

On Saturday- Habisch was back at it in helping to complete the sweep, scoring two goals including the game winner 11:13 into the third period of a 3-1 UConn win. Brooke Campbell also scored for the Huskies. Adriana Van De Leest tallied the lone marker of the weekend for Maine in the third, assisted by Ava Stevenson. Mattison made 26 saves for the Black Bears, who falls to 4-8 and 2-6 in Hockey East. Chan stopped 34 shots for UConn, who improves to 7-3-1 and 6-3-0 in conference play.

Maine is back in action for a two game series on the road at Vermont next weekend.
