Husson football rolls over Nichols College in season finale

The Husson University football team finished their 2023 season on Saturday afternoon by putting up 751 yards of total offense in a 61-31 win over Nichols College at Vendetti Field in Dudley, Massachusetts in Commonwealth Coast Conference action.

Husson never trailed and built a 21-0 first half lead on a 9-yard run by Elijah Garnett, a Nic Visser 5-yard run, and a 1-yard pass from Visser to Garnett. Garnett added a second half touchdown run, Marcus Sessoms had a scoring catch, Cullen Casey had two TD receptions, and Jed Lober also had two scoring runs. Visser, in his final game with the program, went 25-30 passing with a school record 414 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions. Visser broke the old program record that was held by Cory Brandon (404 yards) in 2018. Garnett rushed for 202 yards on 18 carries with two scores, and Lober had 13 attempts for 122 yards and two touchdowns. Casey (6-135, 2 TD) and Dom Wilson (6-112) both went over 100 yards receiving. CJ Nicely, Tucker Buzzell, and Tyrek Mann led the defense. Nicely and Buzzell had 11 total tackles each and also one sack a piece, while Mann had nine tackles (4.0 for a loss) and 2.5 sacks. Antwan Turner had two of five interceptions on the day as well. Xavier Powell passed for 366 yards (31-45) with two touchdowns and five interceptions in the loss for Nichols College. Zahir Booker led the ground game with 118 yards on 15 carries with two scores, and Josh Vitti had eight catches for 115 yards. The Bison end their season at 3-7, 0-5 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. Husson concluded their year with a record of 7-3, 3-2 in the conference.
