Harding, Loring help PVHS boys beat PCHS

January 9, 2024

At Howland Monday night, Colin Harding recorded a double double to lead the Penobscot Valley (PVHS) boys basketball team to a 43-31 victory over Piscataquis Community High School (PCHS).

Both teams were quite cold early on, as PVHS managed to take a 14-12 lead into the half. Harding scored over half of those finishing with eight points before the break, while PCHS freshman Chase Lander paced his team with six.

The scoring quickened in the third quarter, with both teams nearly doubling their point total. Balanced efforts by Kaden Loring, Colin Dunn, and Harding allowed the Howlers to stretch the lead to six, while a pair of Lander 3-pointers kept the Pirates within striking distance. PVHS was sparked by Loring in the fourth as he netted six points, while Brady Gaw heated up with eight points for the Pirates. The Howlers ended up tacking on some free throws to close out the victory.

Harding finished with 19 points and 13 rebounds which were both game-highs, and was followed by 14 points from Loring. Dunn (8) and Ryan Dawson (2) rounded out the scoring for the 4-5 Howlers, who will travel to Schenck on Thursday.

PCHS was led by Lander and Gaw, who finished with 14 and 12 points respectively. Noah Kain completed the scoring line by putting in five points. The Pirates drop to 4-2 and will travel to Milo to face Penquis on Thursday.
