Clutch 3-pointer by Moon forces overtime, and PVHS boys basketball defeats Lee Academy

At Howland Thursday night, senior guard Caleb Moon nailed a 3-pointer with six seconds left in regulation to force overtime and Penobscot Valley (PVHS) boys basketball would go on defeat Lee Academy 55-52.

After trailing much of the game, Lee Academy would storm back in that fourth quarter. Down 38-36 with just under four minutes remaining, junior Andrew Glidden personally went on his own run of 13-8 that included three 3-pointers and 4-4 from the free throw line to give the Pandas a 49-46 lead. After his final shot at the line, PVHS inbounded the ball with 16 seconds left. Colin Harding sent a skip pass over to Moon in the left corner, who launched his 3-point attempt just over the outstretched hand of defender Austen Gipson. The shot splashed through the cylinder sending the game to an extra session and the home crowd into a frenzy.

In overtime, a layup by Harding, a 3-pointer by Colin Dunn, and a free throw by Kaden Loring sealed the win for PVHS as they held Lee Academy to just three points in the extra four minute period.

The offensive play of Harding was instrumental in the PVHS victory, as he netted a team-high 20 points. Moon hit four 3-pointers and had 12 points, including the big one from long distance to send the game to overtime. Loring contributed an efficient 13 points. Other scorers for the Howlers included Dunn (6), Chase Osgood (2), and Ryan Dawson (2). PVHS improves to 8-8 on the season (6-3 in their last nine games), and will be at Woodland on Saturday. Lee Academy (4-11) was led by Glidden who had a game-high 28 points (eight 3-pointers). 22 of those points came in the second half, as the Pandas rallied from a nine point halftime deficit. Other scorers included Jackson Sabattus (9), Cohen Noble (8), and Finn Knowles (7). Lee will play Calais at home on Saturday.
