PCHS rallies for girls basketball win over Stearns

GUILFORD – Ava Goulette scored 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead the Piscataquis Community High School (PCHS) Lady Pirates to a 47-44 girls basketball win over Stearns on Friday night.

Stearns went on a 7-0 run to end the first quarter to take a 15-9 lead. The Minutemen held a 25-22 advantage at intermission behind 13 first half points from Gracyn Sanders.

PCHS stepped up the defense on Sanders in the third quarter and outscored Stearns 14-9 to take a 36-34 lead going to the fourth. Goulette and Bella Buehne each scored four points in the final quarter and Anna Crosby made a three-pointer to secure the win for the Lady Pirates.

Crosby and Brookie Hunt each had 3 three-pointers. Crosby had 13 points, Hunt had nine points, while Buehne had eight points and seven rebounds. Reese Starbird had 10 rebounds, four steals, and three assists. PCHS (3-13) out rebounded Stearns 34-29. The Lady Pirates will finish the season with a game at Schenck on Monday and a home game against Greenville on Wednesday.

Sanders led the Minutemen with 16 points, and Kennedy Emerson had 15 points and 10 rebounds. Ava Pelkey added 10 points, six rebounds, and two steals. Stearns (5-12) will finish the regular season against Schenck on Wednesday.
