Caleb Vacchiano (Sacopee) capped off a nine run eighth inning for the University of Southern Maine on Saturday afternoon with a grandslam to help the Huskies rally for an 11-7 victory over Babson College in a NCAA Division III Baseball Regional Tournament game in Gorham.
Vacchiano had two hits, as did Kyle Douin (Cony). Douin and Kaiden Morin (Brewer) drove in two runs each. Gabe Gifford (Old Town) pitched the first 7.2 innings allowing seven earned runs while striking out seven. Kason Lewis- South Portland (0.1 IP) and Carson Black- Sacopee (1.0 IP) came in for some scoreless relief, with Lewis getting the win. The grandslam by Vacchiano is his second in two weeks, as he also hit one in Little East Conference Tournament. USM (31-10) will play a winners bracket game vs top seed Rowan University (33-5) on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
