Dirigo pulls away from Bucksport in the Class C final to win their first softball state title

Dirigo scored four runs in the final two innings to defeat Bucksport 5-1 on Saturday afternoon at Coffin Field in Brewer to earn their first softball state championship in school history.

Dirigo started quick when Abby Luczynski hit a sacrifice fly that scored Nikole Turnbull in the top of the first inning. Bucksport responded quickly when Avery Robshaw ripped a double that scored Marina Keene to even the score at 1.

The game remained tied until Xandria Libby hit a double to score Leah Turnbull in the top of the sixth inning to give the Cougars a lead they wouldn’t give back. Bucksport had a threat in the bottom of the frame, when they had first and second with no outs. Keene hit a rocket that Miss Maine Softball finalist Nikole Turnbull caught at shortstop and threw it to second for a double play.
