Noah Corliss and Cassius Hogan had two hits each to lead GSM (Greater Southern Maine) to a 5-3 win over Trenton in a Senior Legion state tournament game played Monday afternoon on Ronald J. St. Pierre Field at Mansfield Stadium.
The Riders from Southern Maine got on the scoreboard quickly after the first three batters reached in the top of the first inning, they took advantage of an error to take a 1-0 lead.
They expanded the lead with three runs in the third inning. Corliss had a hit to score one, another scored on an error, the final run of the inning came across when Dante Cuesta was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
While the offense built the lead, Parker Soule-Parent was taking care of things on the mound. He allowed four hits in three scoreless innings, walking one and striking out six. Parker Bjorklund pitched the next three innings, allowing only one base runner.
GSM added an insurance run in the 7th inning when Hogan doubled to scored Corliss. Trenton rallied but fell short in the 7th inning despite Dawson Curtis ripping a triple to score three runs.
Ryan Winchester went 3-3 for the Acadians. Trent Goss allowed four runs (one earned) on five hits and four walks, while striking out four in six innings.
GSM will play Dunkin (Bangor) at 5 pm on Tuesday with the winner advancing to the championship game. Trenton is playing an elimination game against Oxford Hills on Monday night.
