Two goals in the first 14 minutes would end the scoring on Sunday afternoon at the New Balance Soccer Complex in Orono, as Maine women’s soccer battled UMass-Lowell to a 1-1 draw in America East action.
Luise Renwald had the Black Bears goal in the 8th minute, before Nina Hertz-Saebbo put in her sixth of the season about six minutes later for the Riverhawks. Despite the hosts holding an 18-10 advantage in shots attempted (7-3 on net), and a 6-3 advantage in corner opportunities, the game would end in a draw. Nora Belin added an assist for UMass-Lowell (3-4-3, 0-0-2 in America East), and Rachel Welch made six saves in net. Aja Turner and Abbey Thornton (Windham) both notched an assist for Maine (4-3-3, 1-0-1), while Elena Barenberg made two stops in goal. The Black Bears will travel to Vermont to take on the Catamounts next Sunday at 3 p.m.
