Ava Wolverton (Brunswick) and Kate Kelso (Skowhegan) both had second half goals on Tuesday, as the University of New England opened their field hockey season with a 2-1 non-conference win over the University of Southern Maine in Biddeford.
Wolverton scored in the third quarter for the Nor’Easters, and the fourth quarter tally by Kelso turned out to be the game winner. Eliza Rogers (Massabesic) scored late for the Huskies but it was too little too late. Riley Curtin made seven saves in the cage for the victory. UNE will continue non-conference by hosting Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) on Saturday at 1 p.m.
