Old Town softball upsets top seed Hermon in Class B semifinals

Old Town got out to a 3-0 third inning lead on Saturday afternoon, and would hold on to upset top seeded Hermon 3-2 in a Class B softball semifinal game played at Hermon High School.

Alyse Sapiel and Molly Albert each knocked in a run for the #4 Coyotes. Haley Sirois got it done in the circle by tossing a complete game allowing just one earned run on four hits with two walks and 12 strikeouts. Mikelle Verrill had two hits and one RBI for the Hawks. Brielle Phair also had one hit and one RBI. Verrill pitched well in taking the defeat as she also went the distance giving up two earned runs on three hits with two walks and 13 strikeouts. Hermon ends their season with a record of 15-3. Old Town (14-4) will battle #2 Gardiner in the regional championship at the University of Maine in Orono on Tuesday.
