Balanced scoring lifts PVHS boys to a win in home opener

In Howland Wednesday, Penobscot Valley had all five starters score at least eight points en route to an 82-53 boys basketball win over Woodland.

PVHS jumped out to a quick 8-0 start to begin the game, and never looked back. Chase Osgood led the way in the quarter scoring ten points, as the Howlers took a 22-12 lead after the first quarter. They followed that up with another 22 point quarter, going into halftime with a 44-27 advantage. Drouin Brochu had eight points, and Ryan Dawson had seven in pacing the hosts in the frame. Gaige Farrar netted eight in the quarter for the visitors from Woodland.

The third quarter showed the same consistent offensive output by PVHS, as they dropped another 22 points throughout the eight minutes with nine of them coming from Noah Austin.

Osgood, Austin, and Brochu led Penobscot Valley in scoring with 18 each, as the Howlers improved to 1-1. Brochu also had 11 rebounds. Ryan Dawson had a monster night, finishing with 17 points and 19 rebounds. Darius Miranda (8) and Camron Smeal (3) rounded out the scoring. PVHS will host Calais on Friday.

Woodland was led by a trio of sophomores. Evan Monk netted 17 points, Braden Dana had 14, and Farrar finished with 13. Gavin Berry came off the bench to score six points, and Isaac Downing knocked down a three pointer. The Dragons fall to 1-1 and will host Washington Academy next Monday.
